President Uhuru Kenyatta has chaired a Senate parliamentary group meeting which resolved to remove two Ruto allies – Senate majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Senate Majority Whip, Nakuru Senator, Susan Kihika from the Senate leadership
The meeting, which was held at state house decided that Elgeyo Marakwet Senetor Kipchumba Murkomen who is the leader of majority in the Senate will be replaced by West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio from KANU.
Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika who was the Senate Majority chief whip will be replaced by her deputy, Murang’a Senator Irungu Kangata. Other changes made included appointing Nominated Senator Fatuma Dullo Adan from Isiolo County as the Deputy Majority Leader and Nominated Senator Farhiya Ali Haji as the Deputy Majority Chief Whip.
DP Ruto’s allies came out guns blazing saying the changes were null and void. His aide Mr. Dennis Itumbi raised questions on the number of Senators who attended the meeting indicating that some Senators had rejected to be flown to the meeting.
In a protest letter to Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika said the Senators who attended the State House meeting were less than the half of all Jubilee members as required by the Standing orders, and that no vote was taken as required by standing order 19 thus the changes were not confirmed.
Ms. Kihika also said that they did not receive an official invitation to a meeting with an agenda to remove the two leaders. She also stated that Jubilee party does not have a valid coalition with KANU and the party believes in unity and does not support anyone who is trying to create factions.
